What is saline removal?
Saline removal is a corrective treatment that uses a specialized saline (salt-based) solution to draw unwanted pigment out of the skin. It is used to lighten or remove microblading, nano, combo, powder brows, lip blush, or any cosmetic tattoo that healed too dark, the wrong shape, the wrong color, or that has migrated. Because it is not a laser and uses no aggressive chemicals, it works on all pigment colors, including the organic pigments that lasers struggle with.
How does saline removal work?
It works by osmosis. The same controlled technique used to implant pigment is used to open the skin and apply the saline solution; the salt then draws moisture — and pigment — up and out. As the area heals, a scab forms and lifts the trapped pigment away with it. Each session removes a layer, gradually fading the unwanted ink.
Is the 24-hour emergency removal really better?
Yes — timing matters. If you have just had permanent makeup you are unhappy with, an emergency saline removal within the first 24 hours is the most effective window. The pigment is still fresh and sitting high in the skin, so it lifts out far more easily than settled, healed ink. If you think you need an emergency removal, contact us as soon as possible — the sooner, the better the result.
How many sessions will I need?
Because saline removal is non-invasive and gentle, most results take more than 3 sessions — often several, depending on how much pigment there is, how saturated and how old it is, your skin, and the color. This is by design: removing slowly and safely protects your skin and avoids scarring. Sessions are spaced about 6–8 weeks apart to let the skin fully heal between each one.
What can saline removal correct?
- Brows that healed too dark, too thick, or the wrong shape.
- Pigment that turned an unwanted color (e.g., warm/orange or cool/grey).
- Migrated or blurred strokes.
- Old work you want lightened before a new application, so your fresh result looks clean.
- An emergency when you are unhappy right after a fresh procedure.
Does it hurt, and is it safe?
It is comparable to the original PMU procedure and very tolerable. Saline removal is non-invasive — no laser, no acids — which makes it a gentler option for the delicate brow and lip area. As with any corrective work, following aftercare closely is what keeps it safe and effective.
Saline removal vs. laser removal — what is the difference?
Laser targets pigment with light and can struggle with lighter or organic cosmetic pigments (and is not ideal near the lashes/lips for some colors). Saline physically draws pigment out and works on all colors, making it a popular, gentler choice for permanent makeup correction. One honest exception: if your brows are very saturated with blue or very dark pigment, laser is usually the most effective solution — and that is a service we do not offer. In that case we will tell you upfront and point you toward laser removal.
What does healing and aftercare look like?
After each session a scab forms — do not pick it; let it fall off naturally, as that is what carries the pigment out. Keep the area clean and dry, avoid moisture, sweating, and makeup over it while it heals, and follow the aftercare we provide. Then wait the recommended 6–8 weeks before your next session.
